New Music: John Van Deusen

John Van Deusen has a new album on the way, streaming everywhere on June 3rd. His upcoming album will be I Am Origami Pt. 4 Marathon Daze the fourth instalment in the I Am Origami series. We’ve known this album is coming for a while, he has previously talked about doing four or five I Am Origami albums. We’ve even heard the titular song about 5 years ago on KEXP when JVD did a set. The journey he takes you on with his artistic expression throughout this series is well worth the listen. From the pop of the first album to the worship on the second.

With I Am Origami Pt. 3 A Catacomb Hymn (the first one I heard) he delivered an indie/pop-punk 90s-sounding melodies paired with lyrics that touch on a range of issues that are deeply personal and relatable to me.

Already on the songs, he has released from the fourth instalment Marathon Daze you can hear the desperate pleas and prayers to God for help. The lyrics are filled with poetic wonderings about existence, desperation, depression and wrestling with the existence of God and putting him first. I am incredibly excited for June 3rd, to hear what he has to say, to hear I Am Origami Pt. 4.

You can listen to all seven of his released tracks for free on Bandcamp, you can also read a ramble well thought out post by him there as well describing the album and his thoughts about it below.
