Switchfoot’s New Album‽

GRAMMY award-winning artist Switchfoot has confirmed their 12th album is on the way after a couple of months of speculation and the announcement of a tour in the fall with Needtobreathe and The New Respects.

interrobang will release August 20th, 2021, with eleven tracks. Jon Foreman in a statement about the upcoming album says, “interrobang is an album that celebrates the journey, even when the arrival is unsure,” he explains. “interrobang is the sound of joy and pain, faith and doubt against the backdrop of the strangest, most difficult year we’ve ever experienced.”

interrobang is the follow-up to their 2019 award-winning album for Native Tongue.

interrobang (‽), sometimes represented by (?!, !?, ?!?, !?!), was conceptualized by Martin Speckter in the 60s. He believed advertisements would look better with a single punctuation mark to convey surprised rhetorical questions using a single punctuation mark.

Little sidebar about the interrobang punctuation mark, he solicited names for this new proposed punctuation mark, including QuizDing, rhet, exclamaquest and exclarotive. Interrobang was ultimately settled on as it derives from interrogatio, Latin for rhetorical question or cross-examination and bang, which is printer’s slang for the exclamation mark.

Switchfoot has played this up in tweets since announcing the title of the album, as seen below.

You can listen to the second single, fluorescent, from their upcoming album interrobang.
