Hello Kelly Releases Sweet Nostalgia

It has been years since Hello Kelly has released new music. Their last release was actually in 2017 with a single called When Will I See You Again?

It turns out 3 years later, in 2020, during a pandemic, we saw them again. On October 8th, they released their latest track, which transported me right back to 2008, Sweet Nostalgia.

Francy works his lyrical magic with this high energy track that made my leg bounce with the beat without my consent. My interpretation of Sweet Nostalgia is that it is a song about depression and mental health disguised as a fun song. In short, I love the song.

From the lyrics, it’s clear that the author’s life got complicated, and something was lost along the way or perhaps it was never there. It’s as if the writer was like Annie with Tomorrow as a child and then realized its more Tears For Fears and Mad World. It’s a longing to go back to the days when they were hopeful, and they didn’t have that void inside, or at least they didn’t notice it as much and still had hope for the future. Sweet Nostalgia is a catchy song. It’s a great song. But I think it can be added to the list of happy sounding songs with dark lyrics alongside Don’t Let’s Start by They Might Be Giants and Paint, it Black by The Rolling Stones.

One thing is for sure, whenever I do have that feeling of nostalgia I know exactly what song I am asking Siri to blast.
