The New Respects: New Music
The New Respects, the Nashville based alternative band have released a new EP, it’s not what I expected, but I love it still the same. There is more of a soulful vibe to this acoustic EP and Jasmine Mullen’s vocals really shine through on these tracks. Which isn’t surprising considering her mother is Grammy Nominated Gospel artist Nicole C Mullen.
The EP is interesting for more than just the beautiful vocals and touching lyrics. It’s who wrote lyrics, the credits include the band members of course, Jasmine Mullen, Alexandria Mowry, Alexis Hill and Darius Fitzgerald. What we also see is a strong connection to the CCM industry, Brent Milligan lent his hand to the second track What Makes the World, he worked with them previously on Here Comes Trouble and has worked with many other artists such as dc talk, Michael W Smith, Steven Curtis Chapman and Colony House. Which, speaking of Colony House, Caleb Chapman lent his writing skills on the track Mercy.
Overall it’s one of my favourite acoustic EPs to have been released, not just because its The New Respects, but because it is original work. A lot of bands re-release songs as acoustic versions, so to me it is refreshing to hear this track as an acoustic, as it was intended to begin with.
I love the EP, highly recommend you listen to it for inspiration and comfort this month.
